The statement by the ECI read, "It has come to the notice of Election Commission of India that an event claiming to demonstrate EVMs used by ECI can be tampered with, has been organised in London". Shuja said that he was part of a team which designed the EVMs used in the 2014 elections.

The Election Commission of India has written to the Delhi Police, asking that a case be lodged against a London-based hacker who, during a so-called hackathon yesterday, claimed the Electronic Voting Machines used for elections in India can be tampered with. He wondered that whether the Election Commission and millions of staffers involved in manufacturing, programming of EVMs and conduct of elections during the UPA government in collusion with the BJP.

"Honourable Supreme Court and various Honorable High Courts have also endorsed the use of EVMs in the elections through various judgments", the complaint said.

Meanwhile, the Electronic Corporation of India Ltd said on Tuesday that Shuja had not been an employee of the organisation, as claimed by him, PTI reported. Syed Shuja had claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party had rigged the 2014 elections by hacking the voting machines.

Shuja claimed that telecom giant Reliance Jio had helped the BJP hack the EVMs.

During nearly an hour and a half-long interaction, Shuja explained that he was first exposed to the EVMs while working for the Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) - the firm responsible for the manufacturing of the EVMs used by the Election Commission of India for polls in the country.

"EVMs have been in use for the last 20 years". A graphite-based transmitter is required to get into an EVM.

Speaking at the event in London, Shuja claimed that he worked for the ECIL from 2009-2014. We are working closely together and decided on Jan 19 itself to consistently take up the matter with EC.

Shuja claimed that he and "his team" had realised the machines used in the 2014 polls were emitting signals - which they were not supposed to do - and had tried to blackmail BJP leaders in Hyderabad with the information. He said insanity in the Congress is increasingly becoming contagious. "But, it can be verified also", he said, commenting on the charges made by Shuja.

"The 2014 general elections were rigged", he claimed. "Otherwise, the BJP would have swept", he claimed.

He said the BJP would have won the recent Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections if his team hadn't intercepted the alleged attempts by the saffron party to hack the "transmissions" in these states.
