After Facebook, Apple bans Google from running internal iOS apps

  • Apple has now broken all of Google’s internal iOS apps

The search engine was utilizing its own VPN iOS app also being distributed to Google's users through Apple's Enterprise Developer Program. And Apple has made changes to some of its tech features that limit the ability of Facebook and others to track users. If popular apps, such as Facebook's Instagram and Google Maps, aren't kept up to date on iPhones, consumers might switch to handsets that run on Google's Android operating system. Instead, it was using the certification - which should only be used to create employee apps - to quietly make a consumer-accessible app, which circumvents Apple's standard review process.

Recent days have seen the simmering tension between Apple and Facebook reach an unprecedented level, after months of back-and-forth sniping, veiled potshots and a cold war between the two tech titans that suddenly became quasi-hot. Facebook Research is said to be essentially the same code under a different name. "To be clear, this didn't have an impact on our consumer-facing services", a Facebook spokesperson told TechCrunch.

Fast on the heels of Apple kicking Facebook Research out of the program on Tuesday, so too did Screenwise Meter get the heave-ho.

Mashable reports that Facebook shows no remorse for their latest scandal in which they were caught possibly spying on teenagers via an app for the objective of "market research".

After news broke that Apple had revoked Facebook's enterprise certificate over its non-compliant Facebook Research app, Google shut down its similar research app, Screenwise Meter.

Facebook says Apple is restoring its access to a key development tool that the iPhone maker disabled on January 30. Facebook told CNBC that the certificate has been reinstated, though Apple has to confirm it.

Interim Budget 2019's Rural Push, Tax Sops Spells Cheer For Auto Industry
No income tax on taxpayers earning up to Rs 5 lakh, from Rs 2.5 lakh now . For the current financial year, the income tax slabs will be the same.

On the Screenwise Meter Play Store listing, for example, Google clearly states that data is collected for market research purposes and provides a link to its research panel membership page (you need to be on the panel to download the app).

Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg also defended the app recently in an interview with CNBC stating: "The important thing is that the people involved in that research project knew they were involved and consented".

But Facebook had no comeback for sidestepping Apple's rules.

NOT CONTENT WITH giving Facebook a slap for sneaky use of certificates, Apple has turned its attention to Google.

Apple is dealing with its own privacy crisis after a bug let people to eavesdrop on each other over the company's FaceTime video chat service.

Late Thursday, after Apple relented, Facebook employees began seeing the next day's lunch menu again, as well as their calendars and their shuttle bus schedules.
