Kristoff St. John, a soap-opera actor who played character Neil Winters for 28 years on Young & the Restless, has died.

Officials told TMZ paramedics were sent to his home and were told John was pronounced dead at the scene. The actor had been open about his battles with depression after the loss of his son, Julian, who died by suicide almost three years ago. John's acting career kickstarted at the young age of 8. The police placed him on a 72-hold hold for a psychiatric evaluation. After that NBC sudser ended, he originated the role of Y&R's Neil Winters, earning another nine Daytime Emmy nods (including as recently as 2017) and grabbing gold twice. The family sued the treatment center for negligence and the suit was settled, according to TMZ.

"He is an actor and while he may appear whole on the outside, his heart is broken", she told Entertainment Tonight at the time.

St. John's attorney, Mark Geragos, confirmed the news of his death to ET, saying, "Sadly I can confirm and we will have a statement later today".
