Realmuto, who will turn 28 next month, went from playing for one of the least financially motivated clubs in the sport to one of the deepest-pocketed teams in baseball. Perhaps just as attractive to the Marlins: the earliest Alfaro can hit free agency is 2024.
Phillies general manager Matt Klentak offered his immediate take on the deal.
Thursday's deal netted the Marlins a catcher - Alfaro - to replace Realmuto and a prized pitching prospect in Sanchez who has been compared on occasion to Pedro Martinez.
The 27-year-old Realmuto was selected to his first All-Star game last season and won his first Silver Slugger award.
To put it into perspective for Reds fans, it was essentially the equivalent of sending Tucker Barnhart, Nick Senzel, and a Top 25 pitching prospect to the Marlins for two years of J.T. Realmuto's services.
"I think it's a good idea to date the person before you ask to marry him", Klentak said.
"From our standpoint, that didn't play into the equation at all", Hill said. And he did much of his damage on the road, away from cavernous Marlins Park. On the road, Realmuto, has a.309/.356/.492 slash line with an.848 OPS. In addition to moving to a more hitter-friendly ballpark, Realmuto figures to benefit from joining a lineup that will include Rhys Hoskins, Jean Segura, Andrew McCutchen, Odubel Herrera and potentially one of Bryce Harper or Manny Machado.

The Phillies continue to make improvements to their roster and they haven't even spent stupid money yet.
The reason for that is that the Marlins asking price has been extremely high, mainly because they are unhappy with the returns they got for the other stars they traded a year ago like Giancarlo Stanton, Christian Yelich and Marcell Ozuna.
