With regard to reports of the alleged death of a Uygur man in detention, she said the allegedly dead man Abdurehim Heyit, the 57-year-old musician is still alive and in good health. "I am in the process of being investigated for allegedly violating the national laws".

He then says, "I am now in good health and have never been abused".

Turkey had over the weekend released a statement demanding Beijing close its Muslim internment camps, and said Mr Heyit had died in detention.

The authenticity of the video could not be verified, and it was not clear where and by whom it had been filmed.

"Both China and Turkey face the arduous task of fighting terrorism".

"In my view, it seems that China's actions in Xinjiang are finally crossing a red line among the world's Muslim communities, at least in Turkey, but quite possibly elsewhere".

At a regular press briefing in Beijing on Monday, Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying declared that the video proved Heyit was alive and that the Turkish government had made an "extremely irresponsible" mistake that it should retract and apologize for.

"This is a big deal: [Turkey is] The first Muslim-majority country to criticize China so directly for its horrendous treatment of Uighur Muslims, and one of the most powerful Muslim-majority countries at that", Kenneth Roth, the head of Human Rights Watch, said on Twitter.

Global rights groups say China routinely coerces detainees into making videotaped confessions which are then broadcast through state media to serve the government's propaganda objectives.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry on Saturday called on China to close its detention centres for Muslims, saying the camps said to hold almost a million ethnic Uighurs and other Turkic-language speaking minorities are a "great shame for humanity". China's Embassy in Ankara called Aksoy's comments "completely unacceptable" in a lengthy response posted on its website that defended its policies in the northwestern region of Xinjiang, the Uighur homeland.

After months of denying their existence, Chinese authorities, under increasing outside pressure, acknowledged the camps, terming them vocational training centres.

In its statement on Saturday, Turkey did not say how it had learned that Heyit died, but said the "tragedy has further reinforced the reaction of the Turkish public opinion towards (the) serious human rights violations" in Xinjiang.

"It is no longer a secret that more than one million Uighur Turks - who are exposed to arbitrary arrests - are subjected to torture and political brainwashing in concentration centres and prisons". Turkish media claimed he was tortured to death in a so-called re-education camp in China's Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region.
