A Fun, Worthwhile Must-See For MCU Fans — CAPTAIN MARVEL Review

  • Actor Brie Larson attends the Los Angeles World Premiere of Marvel Studios'Captain Marvel at Dolby Theatre

We're then introduced to Larson as an interstellar soldier on the Kree home planet who's having unusual visions and/or memories that cause her to question her past. With the help of Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg), Vers tracks down the only person who might be the key to figuring out who she truly is-Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch). They are GREAT together. Vers, meanwhile, has been having disturbing flashbacks about a wise female mentor (Annette Bening), an unhappy childhood and a previous life as an air force pilot.

She doesn't have the elegance and aura that Gal Gadot does in Wonder Woman, and her looks are rather plain too.

So yeah ... we see you Marvel Studios. With the exception of a mid-credits scene that takes place after the events of 2018's Avengers: Infinity War, the primary connection here is Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), largely pre-eye patch and sporting a full head of hair, who shows up when Larson's unusual being crashes to Earth claiming to be a soldier engaged in a massive alien war, many galaxies away. A look could speak volumes in an instant and that gaze is present even if it doesn't speak to everyone. When a rescue mission goes sideways Vers is abducted by the Skrulls who attempt to search her memory for information they desperately seek, but their efforts also begin to jostle her amnesia in the process. Women have felt inspired by stories about men for a long time. "Women in the military are being represented, single mothers are being represented".

Danvers' rise to power sees her rediscover her humanity, and this is where Larson draws you in and wins you over. Utterly empowering and inspiring.

Much has been made of the casting of a serious, Oscar-winning actress at the heart of a superhero action film, but overall the gamble works.

Even the well-regarded Wonder Woman was not without its problems, including the overemphasis on the love interest, the bloated running time, and the establishment of Diana's race of fierce Amazonian women warriors at the start - only for them to be sidelined and replaced by an all-male team of laughably bad ethnic stereotypes.

USA trade deficits hit record high following Trump tariff wars
We were at the tail end of the Great Recession then, and, because the economy was bad, Americans bought less stuff from overseas . Put another way, by Trump's own benchmark, the U.S. is 20% worse off than it was at the end of 2016, just before he took office.

Child star from 'School of Rock' caught stealing Florida guitars
The musician allegedly asked staff at the stores if he could test the instruments before walking out with them, according to TMZ . The kicker? He's been deadset busted four times over the past five weeks for stealing guitars and an amplifier.

Missing dentist's body found stuffed in suitcase
Nithya said the last activity on her phone was detected in the Sydney CBD at 1.47pm on Sunday, according to her mobile provider. A Facebook page was set up soon after Dr Reddy went missing, calling for people to "help find Preethi Reddy ".

The music swells with heroic objective. The last third of the film devolves into a series of battles between Captain Marvel and her enemies, but also apparently between the film's editor and cinematographer (visually, these scenes are nearly incoherent), and between the directors and the studio.

The AV Club's Ignatiy Vishnevetsky agrees, citing a "lackluster plot; bog-standard chase scenes and pew-pewing space ships; a notable shortage of interesting characterizations; and a fight scene set to No Doubt's "Just A Girl" that is nowhere as awesome or as silly as it should be". (All the names in this corner of the canon are silly.) That battle eventually crash-lands Vers back on Planet C-53, which you and I call Earth.

The film really only has a few flaws.

She also has one of the most confusing and labyrinthine back stories this film fan has ever had the task of untangling. We meet everyone only briefly.

"Captain Marvel", the first Marvel adaptation both to star a woman and to be co-directed by a woman, is an obvious, crude, and transparent film. But according to Feige, another character from Kelly Sue DeConnick's Captain Marvel comic book series that nearly made it into the film as well. It worked for me when it became more and more intriguing to follow. When she goes into action, the characters and their readers know she has gone into action. They were first introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy in the form of Ronan the Destroyer. She is trained by Yon-Rogg (Jude Law), the commander of Starforce.

And the last act ... you probably won't see coming.
