In a media conference on Wednesday, a NSW Police spokesman confirmed that police had spoken to the ex-boyfriend, who has also been identified as a dentist, as part of the missing person investigation before he was killed on Monday.

Dr Harshwardhan Narde, a Tamworth dentist, drove his BMW into a semi-trailer on the New England Highway near Tamworth about 10pm on Monday night, according to police.

Dr Reddy's body was found in a suitcase dumped in a auto in Sydney's east on Tuesday night.

The last images police have gathered of Dr Reddy show she was in a McDonald's on George Street in the CBD about 2.15am Sunday, as mardi gras celebrations took over the city.

A Facebook page was set up soon after Dr Reddy went missing, calling for people to "help find Preethi Reddy".

Police were told she last made contact with her family at about 11am on Sunday, saying she planned to head home after having a late breakfast in Sydney. The suitcase itself, was found in her vehicle, which was parked in a street in eastern Sydney, the New South Wales Police said.

"It's devastating, and this is completely out of character", dental assistant Chelsea Holmes of Glenbrook Dental Surgery was quoted as saying by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

"Detectives ... are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision, which is believed to be a deliberate act", police said in a statement.
