  • Turkish Airlines aircrafts are stationed at Ataturk International Airport covered in snow in Istanbul

Officials say 30 people suffered bumps, bruises, cuts and a broken leg before the flight landed safely at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport.

One flight attendant suffered a broken leg, according to Steve Coleman, a spokesman for the Port Authority of NY and New Jersey, which operates the area's airports, bus terminals, bridges and tunnels.

"28 passengers onboard and 2 cabin staff, who had sustained non-life threatening injuries, were taken to the hospital upon the flight's landing, for their overall control", the airline said.

The turbulence struck about 45 minutes before landing: "There was like one or two seconds when it was subtle, but then it really started to pick up", passenger Amir Mehrbakhsh tells ABC News.

Earlier, a spokesman for the FDNY said 32 people were injured.

The flight was on a Boeing 777.

Two others were taken to Queens Hospital Medical Center, but most of the other passengers and crew members were treated in a terminal at the airport, Coleman also said.

Another passenger Sead Nikaj, told the network "nobody announced it or anything like that so we figured out something was wrong".

The airline didn't immediately respond to request for comment.

"It started, I was in the bathroom, so it started to go all the way down, so I fell down on the floor and I was all the way up to the ceiling".
