" The best coach in the world is returning to Real Madrid, Zidane, you represent the greatness of this club".

According to a report from La Sexta and seconded by COPE, the former French global will replace Santiago Solari as the Real Madrid manager in an announcement that could come as soon as today.

The 46-year-old was replaced by ex-Spain national team coach Julen Lopetegui who only lasted in the role until October before being sacked.

Instead, Zidane has been persuaded not only to return, but to do so immediately.

Zidane won an unprecedented three consecutive Champions League titles with Real before resigning in May past year. "Maybe after four months it would not have been like that, but now I really do".

There certainly hasn't been a similar level of creativity and freedom amongst this season's Real, with Vinicius Junior proving one of few players breaking the trend.

Asked about Juventus icon Zinedine Zidane on the eve of Atletico Madrid's clash against the Italians, Diego Simeone dismissed the question. "All the adjectives in the world are not good enough to describe Zidane".

So I wasn't able to choose him because he was another substitution. "Now we have to be careful. We have to go to Kiev, and it is always hard to go there, and do a good job".

However, he walked away last May reportedly due to differences with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez over the future direction of the squad.

Real had won the Champions League for three straight seasons under Zidane but lost 4-1 at home to Ajax to go out 5-3 on aggregate, their earliest exit since 2006.

The squad hasn't changed all that much and it's foreseeable that Zidane can reinvigorate Luka Modric and Toni Kroos, who have looked shadows of themselves this season. "He's had a second life as a coach and he is now an extraordinary coach".

Zidane was expected to be in charge of Tuesday's practice session, and his first game back would be on Saturday at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium against Celta Vigo.

Solari, who has been manager of Real's reserve side, is initially appointed as interim manager to replace Lopetegui.

It is why Madrid so wanted him back.

What seemed like the ideal option for the club has become a reality, but the great respect and relationship that Perez and Zidane have is not the only reason the latter was convinced to take the job once again.
