  • Fox News rebukes host Jeanine Pirro for Ilhan Omar hijab comments

Camerota then read Shams the "clarification" statement that Pirro released after she questioned whether wearing hijab meant Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) was disloyal to the United States Constitution, as well as Fox News' statement condemning Pirro. "Omar wears a hijab, which, according to the Quran 33:59, tells women to cover so they won't get molested".

Critics blasted Judge Pirro's remarks, pointing to the First Amendment of the Constitution, which protects freedom of religion.

The controversy was set off by the opening statement of Pirro's Saturday night show.

During her broadcast on Saturday, Pirro, a former NY prosecutor, suggested Minnesota Democrat Ilhan Omar, a Democractic representative, did not respect the law set down by the Constitution of the United States.

Pirro was called out on Twitter by a fellow Fox News Channel employee who is Muslim. "Again, as I mentioned before, I think it is time for America to really do some self-reflection and decide, do you want an individual like her to dictate the narrative or do you want individuals like myself who signed on the dotted line saying they would die for this nation, who served this country with dignity and loyalty".

"Even though she wrote this, it was put in the teleprompter, producers must have seen it ahead of time, Fox News did take a stand against her", Stelter said, noting Pirro's refusal to apologize and predicting that she'd be back at it within a week.

This means that the Giants now have the sixth pick and the 17th pick in this years draft which could mean one of two things. Dave Gettleman , the general manager for the Giants, has been denying throughout the offseason that he would trade Beckham.

Pirro is also a staunch supporter of President Donald Trump, who has spread numerous conspiracy theories about Muslims.

Fox News found solidarity with an unlikely politician on Monday.

"No one's commitment to our Constitution should be questioned due to their faith or country of birth", Omar said.

One of the first Muslim women ever elected to Congress, Omar is an outspoken progressive whose politics and personal story have drawn wide notice.

In response to Omar's comments on Israel, late last week, members of the House voted through a broad bipartisan resolution condemning anti-Semitism and, after a last-minute revision, other forms of hatred and bigotry including Islamophobia.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) on Sunday called for Pirro to be fired.
