On Monday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) made headlines for telling The Washington Post that Democrats would not attempt to impeach Trump without bipartisan support and overwhelming evidence of wrongdoing.

"If you desire to stop me, you but only have to change the rules so that I can't bring a vote on impeachment".

Pelosi's position is backed by House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD), who said "the distraction would be major", Fox reports. "And he's just not worth it", Pelosi said.

He had asked about the topic that is on everyone's mind as Washington awaits the soon-expected results of special counsel Robert S. Mueller III's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Green said he is not concerned with Speaker Pelosi's contention that impeachment is "not worth it".

The remarks quickly sparked criticism of Pelosi from liberals on social media.

Similarly, Democratic strategist David Burstein told The Epoch Times that he sees two factors at play in Pelosi's comments.

Since Trump's election, Democrats have twice tried to force votes on impeachment proceedings, winning a high-water mark of more than 60 supporters - far from the 218 needed. About 48% of adults in the US said Trump should be impeached, while 40% opposed it, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll published March 8. Would an impeachment help rally the Democratic party together or cause division? The president was discussing immigration at the time he called certain countries S-hole countries, and I might add these are countries where people of color were.

Meanwhile, members of Pelosi's caucus have been outspoken about their desire to impeach Trump. Republicans control the Senate, which would conduct a trial and then vote on whether to remove Trump if the House impeaches him for any "high crimes and misdemeanours", as the Constitution specifies.

The comments come days after House Judiciary Committee chairman Jerry Nadler announced a sweeping investigation, sending letters to 81 people and entities - including the White House, the Justice Department, senior campaign officials, Trump Organization officials and the President's sons - into possible corruption, obstruction of justice and abuses of power. Although removal from office in the Senate is a long shot at the moment due to Trump's Republican support, many see Impeachment in the House as a constitutional necessity to rebuke a historically corrupt president. "President Trump, as much as he likes to beat up on the media, he likes to watch himself".

"It absolutely drives him nuts", she said. "This might be the best political decision for Democrats heading into 2020", wrote Chuck Todd, Mark Murray and Carrie Dann in their Meet the Press daily blog.

She is correct when she speaks to the divisiveness that an impeachment hearing would thrust onto an already fractured nation.

"There's also some dismissiveness there that you kind of have to acknowledge", said Yamiche Alcindor, White House correspondent of the PBS NewsHour and an MSNBC contributor.

"There's only a handful of Republicans that would do anything that is questionable of Trump even if he did the gun to the head of somebody on Fifth Avenue that he's talked about", Cohen told reporters Monday night. She could say instead that many of Trump's actions are indeed impeachable, but that actual process isn't feasible right now.
