  • Man Utd could have Champions League fixtures reversed - UEFA

Manchester United supporters have reacted enthusiastically to the prospect of facing Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk heads home during their win over Bayern Munich. The 31-year-old Barcelona forward is also the leading scorer in this season's competition with eight goals.

"It's the sort of occasion Manchester United are used to".

He admits that playing at home in the second leg could be an advantage, but he was quick to stress the way Manchester United defied the odds against Paris Saint-Germain the previous round.

Not all the memories are bad for Man United, however.

Eight sides remain in the Champions League and the teams found out on Friday morning who they would face in the quarters as well as their potential opponent in the semis.

However, as with the quarterfinal draw, the legs for United's tie would be switched if both Manchester clubs go through.

Manchester City are now on top of the Premier League table with 74 points from 30 games, while Liverpool are second-placed with 73 points from the same number of games. Cristiano Ronaldo hit a hat-trick at the Allianz Stadium and will be on the hunt to win his fifth Champions League trophy in the last six years. We've given ourselves a chance to be in and amongst the top four, and we're in the quarter-finals of both the FA Cup and the Champions League. True, they've just won 5-0 away in Europe, but let's be honest, this Premier League tie will be far more hard than Thursday's trip to Kiev.

It makes good reading for Manchester City who are given a 34% of winning the whole competition, while Liverpool are chosen in second place with 25%. "I could not be further away from thinking it's the best draw because it isn't".

Tottenham meanwhile saw off Bundesliga high-flyers Borussia Dortmund 4-0 over two legs, the damage being done with a 3-0 win at Wembley in the first match.

The club's one and only appearance was back in 2010/11, the season in which Gareth Bale lit up the European scene with two stunning group stage games against Inter Milan.

He said: "I think for Pep, it's hard".

The semi-finals will then see either Tottenham or City face Ajax or Juventus, and United or Barcelona play Liverpool or Porto.
