  • Huawei Again Reiterates Plans For Its Own Mobile OS, Just In Case

South China Morning Post quotes a Huawei spokesperson as confirming that this operating system does exist, only that the company doesn't believe it would ever use it.

The proprietary operating system is Plan B from Huawei and it may use it if it is no longer allowed to use Android and Windows on its devices.

Chinese tech giant Huawei has built its own operating system in case its relationship with the United States sinks to the point it can not use Windows and Android. In an interview with German agency Die Welt, Yu divulged that Huawei has developed in-house operating systems.

While Huawei uses its own Kirin processors in most of its phones, a ban on American products would have big repercussions for its laptop line, which, in addition to using Windows, relies on processors from Intel. "Huawei does have backup systems but only for use in extenuating circumstances" but they "don't expect to use them, and to be honest, we don't want to use them". According to Yu, Huawei will continue to use Google and Microsoft operating systems, but if the legal battle intensifies, it won't hesitate to switch to its own ecosystem.

Anyone can become a rewards member by signing up for the rewards app that's available in the Apple App Store and on Google Play. Also, get a whole pizza delivered for $3.14 through 7NOW at Delivery.7-eleven.com/home (the first three deliveries are free).

Huawei's statement comes days after the company chose to sue the US Government over a ban imposed on its products. The same punishment was handed out to ZTE previous year over sanctions violations. Huawei makes its own SoC - the Huawei Kirin, and so is not much dependent on Qualcomm's 'Snapdragon SoC, but same cannot be said of the company's patronage of Google's products and services particularly Google Android OS. That Huawei may face a similar ban is not out of the realm of possibility. We work with many U.S. companies, including Qualcomm and Microsoft.

Huawei lawyers on Thursday also pleaded not guilty to federal charges that its CFO Meng Wanzhou violated USA trade sanctions on dealing with Iran and hid its dealings in the country through a subsidiary. Its latest device, the Mate 20 series, now runs Android while its Matebook series run Microsoft's Windows 10 OS.

Huawei has been using US-made operating systems on its devices since several years.

For its part, Huawei says it hopes to avoid this worst-case scenario. Other nations will make their own.
