  • Pyongyang set to break off denuclearization talks with Washington — diplomat

North Korea has found a scapegoat for last month's bungled negotiations with the United States: President Donald Trump's national security advisor, John Bolton.

"We have no intention to yield to the USA demands [at the Hanoi summit] in any form, nor are we willing to engage in negotiations of this kind", she told reporters at a news conference in Pyongyang, Russian state news agency TASS reported.

Choe explicitly threatened to resume banned ballistic missile launches and nuclear weapons tests if the US does not soften its position on denuclearization, saying Kim would "clarify his position" on resuming nuclear activity soon.

Trump told reporters on Wednesday that he had "no update" on North Korea, but said he seemed to "have a very good relationship" with the country's officials.

Kim is set to make an official announcement soon on his position on the denuclearization talks with the United States and the North's further actions, it added, citing Choe.

"It is undesirable for the impose additional sanctions if North Korea has not made an explicit provocation", Moon said, "Extra sanction requires supporting reasons to justify, and without legit cause, it will prevent from two side talking". "I want to make it clear that the gangster-like stand of the US will eventually put the situation in danger". He also noted that Trump has "made clear" how disappointed he would be if testing resumed.

Trump has pointed to North Korea's freeze in nuclear and missile testing since 2017 as a positive outcome from almost a year of diplomatic engagement with North Korea.

"Sometimes you have to walk", Trump said during a news conference following the conclusion of the talks, which broke up earlier than planned.

And amid reports of ongoing activity at North Korea's Sohae Satellite Launch facility, US officials have appeared to harden their position.

"Right now, I think they're really frustrated", he says.

"What I think is happening, is North Korea is trying to pressure the U.S. back to negotiations. Just in the past hour, I spoke with my South Korean counterpart and we've discussed their reaction and our reaction, but I would like to speak further within United States government before we respond".
