AB de Villiers aims to be an example to South African youth

Mohali: AB de Villiers, the former South African skipper and current Royal Challengers Bangalore player opened up about his decision to retire from global cricket.

RCB take on Kings XI Punjab at Punjab Cricket Association Stadium on April 13 (Saturday).

The former Proteas batsman, who retired from global cricket in May 2018, has dedicated his time to play in T20 tournaments around the world.

Talking at the post-match presentation ceremony, de Villiers said that he quit global cricket because he finds it a major challenge to stay sharp for 11 months after almost 15 years of playing at the highest level. "It really keeps me energetic". So, very excited to be joining Virat, AB and the boys, Gary, and I'll see you guys in a couple of days. "With some of the local guys and local youngsters, which really gives me the energy and really motivates me to be better for some of the youngsters back home and be an example for them", he added.

Global cricket or not, de Villiers was gushing in his approval of Royal Challengers signing his former team-mate Dale Steyn.
