  • A warning was issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission about the Fisher Price Rock ‘N Play seat after reports of infant deaths

Just days after issuing a safety warning, Fisher-Price has ordered a global recall of its Rock 'N Play infant sleeper, which has been linked to more than 30 infant fatalities. All varieties of the Fisher-Price Rock N' Play Sleepers fall under this recall.

These deaths happened after the babies rolled from their back to their stomach or side, while unrestrained.

"This product is deadly and should be recalled immediately", said Dr. Kyle Yasuda, AAP president.

The voluntary recall comes a week after Fisher-Price and CPSC issued a safety warning on the sleepers. "The Rock 'n Play inclined sleeper should be removed from the market immediately".

Refunds will be issued to people who have owned the Rock ' Play Sleeper for 6 months or less; vouchers will go to those who have owned it for more than 6 months. Fisher-Price reported last week that 10 infants had died while using the sleeper and further investigation determined that number was deflated.

More information is available on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission website. But, Hoffman said, "we feel like this is a risky product".

At least 32 infant fatalities linked to the sleeper model have occurred since 2009, the safety commission said.

As of that age or as soon as there is a noticeable change of movement in the baby, it is recommended that parents who have purchased the product return it to avoid a fatal accident. Tragically, that is not the case. She wants the recall to explain the "other circumstances" babies have died under using the sleeper.

While it is still unclear why this resulted in death, reports suggest it was because it left the infants unable to breathe.

While the statement didn't go into detail about how the babies had died, analysis from Consumer Reports magazine said some of the infants had asphyxiated, or been unable to breathe, due to their position in the sleeper, according to US ABC News. "We had no reason to suspect that it would be unsafe because it was Fisher-Price, you would think it was a reliable company", added Evan.
