  • Mike Augello - Boston to step up physical play in Game 2; Leafs vs. Bruins

"We just want to play the same game", he said. We are going to play our game that worked for us in Game 1.

The NHL's department of player safety tweeted early Sunday that Kadri has been offered an in-person hearing, meaning he could be suspended for more than five games.

Kadri was not made available to the media following the game. Just previous year, Kadri earned himself a three-game suspension for boarding then-Bruins forward Tommy Wingels in Game 1 of the clubs' first-round playoff series.

The Bruins added another goal in the first period when Brad Marchand slipped the puck between Andersen's legs.

Every Leafs line had trouble with every Bruins group they saw. Now, maybe in the end, when you look at it and it says 4-0 or 4-1, you didn't think it was competitive, but usually every game is ultra-competitive.

The Bruins came out of the gate with a objective, bludgeoning every Toronto player in sight and building a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes inside an electric TD Garden.

The Bruins returned to their familiar physical style of play after dropping a 4-1 decision to Toronto in Game 1 of the series on Thursday. Though Marleau was fine, Kadri immediately jumped in to retaliate against DeBrusk and cross-checked him in the face. Jake Muzzin was bloodied by a hard David Pastrnak hit, and then delivered a thunderous check of his own on Torey Krug.

Andersen - by far the best Leaf - robbed Heinen with an exceptional glove save on a power play before Rask made a toe stop on Andreas Johnsson.

"I thought it was clean, looking back on it, shoulder to shoulder", Cassidy said. Obviously Kadri stayed down.

Boston hit everything in sight, jumping out to 3-0 lead in the second period before Kadri scored midway through the third, about four minutes before his cross-check on DeBrusk.

Kadri and DeBrusk came together on a knee-on-knee hit in the second period, resulting in Kadri heading down the tunnel, but returning for the start of the third period and scoring Toronto's lone goal of the game.

After watching DeBrusk chase down Toronto's Patrick Marleau and slam the 39-year-old into the curved glass at the end of the bench, Kadri unleashed a vicious cross-check to DeBrusk's face, resulting in a major penalty and game misconduct.

"It's disappointing for Naz, it's disappointing for our team", Babcock said. If the Bruins carry this effort over to Game 3, the Maple Leafs are going to be in tough, but it feels like things could go either way ... and likely back and forth. "Whatever the circumstances are, we believe in the guys in our locker room".
