Matthews, Johnsson lead Maple Leafs to Game 3 win over Bruins

  • 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs: Maple Leafs' Nazem Kadri may face another postseason suspension, this time for cross-check

The most interesting game on Monday night is between the Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs.

Andersen - by far the best Leaf - robbed Heinen with an exceptional glove save on a power play before Rask made a toe stop on Andreas Johnsson. Things won't come easy for the Bruins in this one though as they have struggled to find a way to win in recent trips to Toronto as they are 2-7 in their last 9 trips to the Ontario capital and they are just 1-5 in their last 6 playoff games as an underdog which are two trends favoring the Buds in this one.

Bergeron scored on the ensuing power play at 15:03 to put a bow on Boston's victory as the Leafs now turn their attention to Game 3 - likely without Kadri. Tuukka Rask stopped 31 shots for visitors in front of a crowd of 19,611 at Scotiabank Arena.

Kadri and DeBrusk have developed something of a personal rivalry over the course of this young series, with the two getting tangled up Game 1 and exchanging words from their respective benches.

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nazem Kadri is facing a potential suspension and will meet with the NHL Department of Player Safety on Monday in NY, the league announced.

"I think injuries, suspensions, are all part of hockey", Leafs coach Mike Babcock said. Players who are to be disciplined five games or less are given the chance to do a hearing over the phone.

Kadri was then felled by a knee-on-knee hit - again from DeBrusk - that resulted in him limping off before he eventually returned to the fray.

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nazem Kadri has officially been suspended for the remainder of the first round of the playoffs.

Kadri to have hearing for actions in Maple Leafs game against Bruins
Jake Muzzin was bloodied by a hard David Pastrnak hit, and then delivered a thunderous check of his own on Torey Krug . Though Marleau was fine, Kadri immediately jumped in to retaliate against DeBrusk and cross-checked him in the face.

Raptors and Leafs playoff games highlight Toronto's super Saturday
Muzzin, a trade deadline acquisition who missed the final regular-season game with an illness, assisted on Marner's first goal. If the stretch pass worked any better this season than the feed Nazem Kadri gave Nylander, we must be forgetting it ...

Unlucky 13th: Johnson accidentally hits ball off tee on practice swing
The 2007 Masters champ bounced back in the early going on his second round, moving to one-over par on several occasions. Zach Johnson hits on the 18th hole on Thursday during the first round for the Masters golf tournament in Augusta , Ga.

Kadri was ejected from Toronto's Game 2 loss on April 13 for an illegal cross check on Boston forward Jake DeBrusk. It would stink, it would be worthy of criticism, but you move on and bring him back next season without thinking twice about it. The video embedded below will give you a great idea how this game went.

Boston outscored Toronto 12-4 in winning the first two games of the 2018 series, with Kadri driving the head of a vulnerable Wingels into the boards late in the opener after he hit Mitch Marner up high. He was retaliating for a hit DeBrusk laid on Patrick Marleau.

And all four of Kadri's previous suspensions also involved him targeting an opponent's head, a no-no in today's game.

That would cost Kadri three games and force the Leafs to play Tomas Plekanec - who was previously the fourth-line centre - in the top six. This is Kadri's second playoff suspension in as many years, with last year's taking place in the first round as well.

And the consequences from this ban could last well beyond the first round of the playoffs.

Babcock's options as replacements for his third-line centre include Marleau and William Nylander, but neither scenario is ideal.

"They had a push and we weren't really ready for it", Leafs defenceman Jake Muzzin said after the game in the visitors locker-room at TD Garden. With that in mind, he wants to see more aggression from the Maple Leafs as the series shifts to Toronto.
