Netflix's popularity is still booming, even as the video streaming service rolls out it biggest USA price increases and girds for new challenges from Walt Disney and Apple, two of the world's most popular brands.

Netflix said it is "excited to compete" with its new rivals, adding: "We don't anticipate that these new entrants will materially affect our growth".

In terms of some of the other numbers released today, Netflix reported $4.5 billion in revenue for the quarter, up 22% over the same period in 2018.

Netflix sees a deceleration in new subscriber additions in the second quarter to 5 million.

Content is king in the streaming game and so the more Disney+ has to offer, the more subscribers it will be able to entice.

Options traders expect Netflix shares to swing by about 7% in either direction in the session after its report, which is expected after the market closes on Tuesday.

At first blush, Netflix delivered in the first quarter. and then some. Having a controlling stake in Hulu could allow Disney to provide another streaming home for the kind of Fox titles that are less family friendly than the content that they want to have on Disney+, so maybe we'll see more adult-oriented titles ending up over there.

Matthews, Johnsson lead Maple Leafs to Game 3 win over Bruins
It would stink, it would be worthy of criticism, but you move on and bring him back next season without thinking twice about it. Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nazem Kadri has officially been suspended for the remainder of the first round of the playoffs.

Disney+ will debut in the USA on November 12 at a price that seems like a direct shot at Netflix.

Meanwhile, competitive threats loom. The company's acquisition of Fox's assets has given it a majority stake in online streaming service Hulu, which is jointly controlled by Disney, AT&T's (T) WarnerMedia, and Comcast's (CMCSA) NBCUniversal. Analysts on average were expecting 57 cents per share.

John Meyer, analyst at the investment firm Transpire Ventures, said Netflix still has the upper hand in the market.

Richard Greenfield at BTIG Research noted that Disney's venture may be hurt by long theatrical "window" that keeps films out of streaming for months, and from longstanding deals giving rivals some of its content.

"We will be aggressive in our efforts, and we believe we will succeed", McCarthy said. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige was onhand to tease Marvel's offerings on the TV side, which mark new territory as previous Marvel TV projects (like the Netflix shows and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) were handled by Marvel Television's Jeph Loeb. "After all, they are a tech company at heart and have enormous power with the data they capture on their millions of subscribers, which helps them design what original content to create".

On Jan. 18 following its last quarterly results, Netflix dropped 4% over concerns about slowing growth, and investors are now focused on how Chief Executive Officer Reed Hastings plans to fend off a major challenge from Walt Disney, with its upcoming Disney+ streaming service.
